HISTORYEDITORIAL BOARDREADER'S OPINION

Conveying the 'Pulse' of Contemporary Korea
Over the years, KOREA FOCUS has proven to be an invaluable resource, both for keeping up on current issues and topics related to Korea, and also for my own scholarly research. In particular, the first-rate translations of articles and editorials from a wide variety of vernacular papers provide me ready access to domestic sources of news, opinion, and commentaries that would otherwise be very difficult to obtain. The longer and more substantive essays provide more depth and analysis. Both specialists and non-specialists and really anyone interested in keeping up with political, social and economic developments in Korea will find KOREA FOCUS to be indispensable. Timothy C. Lim

Keeping Abreast of Public Opinion in South Korea
As one of foreign academics in the field of Korean studies who are often asked by their local press to comment on current events on the Korean Peninsula, I have used KOREA FOCUS to keep me informed on the development of public opinion in the Republic of Korea. As we all know, the international press approaches Korean affairs from different perspectives than the Korean press.
KOREA FOCUS offers easy access to the writings of Korean opinion makers as they have been published in the Korean press. For those who receive the hard copy, the digitalized version is particularly useful for quick searches of archived issues. The usefulness of the webzine would be much enhanced if articles/commentaries are added as they are being translated. Dr. Koen de Ceuster

More Publicity Needed for Broader Readership
For most Japanese people, it is difficult to follow articles or editorials in Korea except for those about Japan or Japan-Korea relations, because of limited time and Korean language ability. There are many important and influential Japanese figures who are keen to know about Korea but cannot read Korean newspapers and do not have time to search articles themselves. Among these people are scholars, lawmakers, bureaucrats, journalists, businessmen, and professionals working for many kinds of organizations, including the Japan Foundation. In this regard, I recommend that the Korea Foundation publicize this meaningful magazine much more, so that many non-Korean specialists come to know about it and read it. Hidetaro Chokkir
